A familiar presence, day and night.
Live-in care at home in Totnes and across the South Hams. A dedicated carer living in the house, so someone is there through the day and the night — and life carries on in the place that already feels like home.
Live-in care and 24-hour support
Our live-in care service provides the reassurance of having a dedicated carer living in the person's home, offering companionship, practical support and a familiar presence throughout the day and night.
Every arrangement is carefully planned around the individual, their usual routines, preferences and level of support required. Our aim is to help people remain safe, comfortable and independent in their own homes, while giving families additional reassurance and peace of mind.
What live-in support can include
Depending on the individual's assessed needs, live-in support may include:
- Companionship and emotional support
- Preparing meals and encouraging good nutrition and hydration
- Light household tasks, laundry and keeping the home comfortable
- Shopping and collecting prescriptions
- Support to attend appointments
- Accompanying the person on outings and visits
- Encouragement with hobbies, interests and daily activities
- Medication reminders and agreed support within the carer's training and responsibilities
- Support with moving safely around the home
- Maintaining familiar routines
- Reassurance and agreed support during the night
Once we have completed the CQC registration process and our registration has been confirmed, support may also include regulated activities such as personal care, where this has been assessed, agreed and included within the individual's care plan.
A comfortable living arrangement
As the carer will be living in the person's home, they will require a clean and comfortable private bedroom, access to a bathroom and reliable Wi-Fi. A weekly shopping allowance must also be provided to cover the carer's food and essential groceries.
We will discuss all practical arrangements before the service begins, so that everyone understands what to expect and feels comfortable with the arrangement.
Daily breaks and additional cover
Having a live-in carer provides the comfort and reassurance of someone being present in the home throughout the day and night. To ensure they remain well rested and able to provide consistent, high-quality support, each live-in carer requires a minimum uninterrupted two-hour break every day, as well as suitable time to rest and sleep.
We will work with the individual and their family to arrange break times that fit as naturally as possible around their usual routine.
If the person would benefit from someone remaining with them while their live-in carer takes their break, we can arrange for another suitable member of our team to provide cover. Break cover is available at an additional cost and will always be discussed and agreed in advance.
Some people may occasionally need reassurance or support during the night. If regular or extended night-time support is required, we may recommend arranging additional night care, so that everyone receives the right level of support and the live-in carer has the rest they need. This will be considered during the initial assessment and discussed openly with the individual and their family before the service begins.
Support planned around the individual
Before live-in support begins, we complete a full assessment to understand the person's needs, wishes, routines, home environment and preferred way of living. We then create an individual support plan and carefully match the person with a suitable live-in carer.
We maintain regular contact and review the arrangement to make sure the support continues to meet the person's needs. Families and representatives will be kept involved where appropriate and with the person's consent.
CQC registration notice
We are currently progressing through the CQC registration process. In the meantime we can continue to provide our day centre, live-in companionship, respite and wellbeing services where regulated care is not required.
Until our registration is confirmed, we are unable to provide regulated activities, including personal care in England.
Talk it through with us.
If you are not sure whether we can help, please ring. We will always be open about what we can and cannot provide at the moment, and there is no obligation either way.
